Fool me three times…

Dale Ramsey is looking forward to his twenty-year high school reunion except for one small problem will his old friend – and old flame – be there?

Adam O’Connor has disappeared twice from Dale’s life. Once after a graduation night fling, and again after a hot reunion years later. When he resurfaces this time, single and on the verge of retiring from the Navy, he wants to mend fences with Dale. Mend fences and maybe tear up some sheets.

The spark between them is alive and well, but Dale resists. After all, Adam has only been interested in him before when his life has been in flux, just like it is now, and Dale refuses to be anyone’s placeholder until something better comes along. He wants his friend back, but he’s not looking to be deserted a third time.

Over and over, though, their attempts to rekindle their friendship wind up igniting something much hotter, and Dale’s feelings for Adam are far too strong to ignore. Should he put himself on the line and risk another broken heart? Or should he be the one to walk away this time?

This 55,000 word novel was previously published.

I don't know. A big part of me wants to round this down to 2.5 ...or 2...I'm not sure why I won't.
I didn't read the first book of this series, but I did read the second, The Closer You Get and I LOVED it...like 5 star loved it and so this one just fell so completely flat for me and I was horribly disappointed. It did have its moments, don't get me wrong, and I kept on reading, so it held my interest but it was just completely lacking the emotional connection that I wanted. It was just sex. And then he would wonder if it was just sex. and he would say it wasn't, but I didn't feel anything other than the sex.
I think a big portion of the problem for me was that this was only from Dale's pov...I could really have used Adam's I think it would have added a lot more to their relationship. Also, it's mentioned that they talk and text and webcam-chat or whatever the hell its called, but we don't really get much of those conversations. We get their...rush to slam each other into the wall and screw--which I enjoy, don't get me wrong...anyhoosals.
There was some genuine awesomeness to the story, some great one-liners, I liked seeing the other characters and their interactions, hello---Body shots!
The sweet, honest "friend" moments were great. I did feel Dale's pain and indecision and there was a point around 70% where I absolutely just wanted to wrap him up and take him home.
So, I'll stick with my 3 star rating...but to be honest it was a let-down after the second book. I will of course continue with this author and will be reading the next book in the series.

Meet Me in the Middle Wilde Book 5 edition by LA Witt Romance eBooks Reviews

Not up to Witt's usual quality of storytelling. Frankly I became bored with both Dale and Adam. Neither caught my attention and HELD it like most of Witt's other stories. Found both characters to be very juvenile instead of the 38 year old men they were.
Dale Ramsey is looking forward to his twenty-year high school reunion except for one small problem. Adam O’Connor, his old friend—and old flame.

Twice before, Adam has disappeared from Dale’s life. Once after a graduation night fling, and again after a hot reunion years later. When Adam resurfaces this time, single and on the verge of retiring from the Navy, Dale wonders if he’ll want to mend fences…and maybe tear up some sheets.
Dale and Adam made out in high school and then parted ways. Adam to the navy and Dale to Seattle. Ten year laters then meet again and rekindle the flame. Then part ways again. Adam has been through several marriages and none work out. Twenty years go buy and they meet again at the high school reunion. Fireworks between them happen and then fizzle. This time things start to click. Adam has wanted Dale all along but the navy has held him back. Adam is ready to retire after twenty years. His departing speech catches everyone by surprise. Was it worth the twenty years for the two of them? This is a roller coaster ride of an adventure between the two but once it pulls into the station it'll leave you breathless.
"For God's sake, Dale, do you think I just wanted to use you?" "I don't know if that's what you wanted or not," I said. "But it's what you did. Twice."

Dale and Adam were best friends in school but parted immediately after their first sexual encounter which happened at graduation. They met again at their 10 year school reunion but once again, Adam leaves Dale after making him promises which he doesn't keep. Finally 20 years after their first encounter, they meet again at the school reunion.

I enjoyed this book but not the level of the previous two in the series. I found it difficult to warm to Adam, or to forgive his treatment of Dale. I found it difficult to accept his reasons for leaving Dale each time and I found it really difficult to understand how Dale maintained his desire for Adam after so many years and so much heartache.

All that aside, it is a nicely told tale with some sizzling sex and some romantic moments, definitely redeemed by the grand romantic gesture - I LOVE big, public romantic gestures!
L.A. Witt's thoroughly delightful and insightful series of gay men who live and love each other in Seattle slows down a bit here from the first two somewhat hedonistic tomes. But that's because it reflects the personalities of two completely selfish and totally insecure main characters--who don't realize that they are, indeed, selfish and insecure. Most readers probably won't get that impression about the narrator, Dale Ramsey, who appears to be a sweet 38-year-old somewhat of a gay playboy, but his deep, 20-year conflict over reconciliation potential with his best friend from high school, Adam O'Connor, can make him appear as an indecisive little wuss at times.

That says nothing about Adam, who went off to the Navy for a career that is about to come to a successful conclusion, a hot, seriously one-dimensional god who had sex with his best buddy the day before graduation and then at their 10-year reunion without so much as a by-your-leave in between--or any indication of the direction his personal life has taken. What a piece of crap you will think.

Now the 20-year class reunion is upon them and even though it may seem off-the-wall and completely unlikely, they meet again and the lumps in the throats and in the pants come back to haunt both of them. The fact that Adam's history comes slightly to the fore at this time is just the tip of the iceberg. The rest of the tale, told from Dale's increasingly panicked and self-deprecating point-of-view, is filled with beautiful moments and some exceptionally wonderful writing--and some very vivid sex.

This one has so much under wraps until nearly completed that you may be wondering if one of them is going to give up and go home pouting. I'm not telling. But I already have started on the fourth book of this series, and that means I have no problem closing the distances between Ms. Witt's wonderful works.
